Regina Calcaterra overcame an incredibly difficult upbringing where she moved from foster home to foster home and lived in a station wagon.

Calcaterra kept her difficult upbringing to herself for many years until she realized it was a source of strength rather than shame. Calcaterra recently was appointed by Governor Cuomo as the executive director of New York State’s Moreland Commission on utility storm preparation and response.

She tells her story of resilience and courage in the new book “Etched in Sand: A True Story of Five Siblings Who Survived an Unspeakable Childhood on Long Island.”
